21:00 TONIGHT, in Master Class, Aki Kaurismäki’s Kauas Pilvet Karkaavat (Drifting Clouds). A film about the crushing effects of unemployment in capitalist society and an individual fight for living with dignity in the face of it. With a happy end.

The film is dedicated to the memory of the greatest actor in contemporary Finnish cinema, Matti Pellonpää, who was suppose to play the main role, before which he passed away. The screening is also dedicated to him.

Ilona: I started as a dishwasher, then kitchen maid, then waiter until I got to be a head waiter. I could still be a waiter.
Restaurant manager: I understand: but I can’t help you… to be honest, you’re too old for a waiter.
Ilona: I’m thirty-eight.
